Focusing on the four major types of special needs children: Physical, developmental, behavioral/emotional and sensory impaired to ensure that children are being treated humanely in accordance with The IDEA Act (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act-children must be prepared for further education, employment, independent living), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (prohibiting schools from discriminating), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA-meet needs of children with psychiatric conditions), and No Child Left Behind (uphold achievement standards for children with disabilities).
